Growing up in a family of 5 children, Terry learned early on the value of a dollar, and the necessity of hard work. At a young age he started working in the fields during the summers, and then put himself through school by bartending and managing a nightclub.
Terry attended the University of Windsor where he earned an Honours B. Sc. in Biology. While there he taught undergraduate labs in Genetics, worked as a researcher and Calculus tutor, wrote for the school newspaper, and won the award for best undergraduate thesis presentation. Terry went on to earn his B. Ed. also from the University of Windsor, graduating on the President's Honour Roll.
During this time, Terry met and then married his wife Andrea. Together they moved to High Prairie Alberta where they had both been offered teaching jobs. Like many others, they thought they would come out to Alberta "for a year or two" and ended up loving it. Terry taught high school Math and coached volleyball in High Prairie for 6 years before accepting an Assistant Principal position in Peace River. Terry now lives, works, and occasionally curls, in Peace River with his wife and 3 children.
